Spoken language leaves no spaces between words so you have to interpret thought groups rather than individual words. There are also "crutches", meaningless words or sounds we use while trying to think of what we want to say next- um, like, well. Finally, there are hesitations and false starts. A speaker begins to say one thing, then changes his or her mind and continues on another track. With practice you can learn to capture the message without getting lost in the incidentals.
